Scope of This
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy
applies only to information provided and collected on this website. It
does not apply to information we have obtained or may obtain on any
other website, offline, or through other traditional means.
This Privacy
Policy applies only to the conduct of Blood Systems in relation to this
website and not the practices of individuals or entities over which
Blood Systems has no control and/or does not employ or manage. This
Privacy Policy also does not apply to any other websites owned or
operated by Blood Systems. For example, while visiting our site, you may
directly or indirectly link to another site for services. Blood Systems
has no control and does not employ or manage any such sites. If you link
to any such third party site, you should review that site’s privacy
policy to determine whether you wish to provide personally identifiable
information on that site.
We recommend that you do not provide
personally identifiable information to this website using a wireless
network, computer or other device. Even if your computer is running
wireless encryption protocols, there is a security risk inherent in
wireless networks. It is impossible for us to guarantee the security of
any such transmissions.
Because of the inherent nature of the
Internet, our website can be accessed from locations around the world.
However, Blood Systems does not solicit use of our site by visitors

identifiable information from visitors outside the United States, and
our site and servers that make this site available are located in the

FOR COMPLIANCE WITH ALL LOCAL AND/OR INTERNATIONAL LAWS.
Information Blood Systems
May Collect and How It Is Used
Personally
Identifiable Information
Blood Systems is a
501(c)(3) charitable organization. This website is provided for your
convenience and information. In order to allow you to take advantage of
some of our site’s features and services, Blood Systems may need to
collect from you “personally identifiable information” which may
include, for example, your name, address, email address, and telephone
number, or any other information that, when taken alone or tied to other
information, would allow someone to identify or contact you. Blood
Systems and our business partners may use this information to schedule
future blood donations, clarify accuracy of information, provide
information about your blood donation(s) or provide information about
donation alternatives or other blood donation-related benefit and
services that may be of interest to you.
Blood Systems is committed to protecting
the security of your personal information. We use a variety of security
technologies and procedures to help protect your personal information
from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. For example, we store the
personal information you provide on computer servers with limited access
that are located in controlled facilities. Additionally, when we
transmit sensitive personal information over the Internet, we protect it
through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL)
protocol.
Blood Systems does
not rent, sell, or market personally identifiable information to any
outside third parties without your consent. If we plan to rent, sell, or
market your personally identifiable information with an outside third
party, you will be notified of this at the time we collect the
information, and you will have the opportunity to opt out of such use of
your personally identifiable information. Any information you consent to
be given to a third party is governed by the rules of that party’s
privacy policy, which may differ from this Privacy Policy. You should
review the privacy policy of any such third party to determine whether
you wish to have Blood Systems share your information with that party.
Exceptions To Our
Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to
disclose any personally identifiable information about you without your
prior consent if we have a good faith belief that such disclosure is
necessary to (1) conform to legal requirements or comply with a valid
legal process, such as a search warrant, subpoena, court order, levy,
attachment, order of a court-appointed receiver, or other comparable
legal process, including subpoenas from private parties in a civil
action; (2) protect our rights or property; (3) enforce the provisions
of this Privacy Policy; or (4) prevent harm to you or others.
Aggregate
Information Blood Systems May Collect Automatically
Blood Systems
may collect certain types of aggregate information automatically
whenever you access and use our site. However, this information is
aggregate in nature and is not by itself personally identifiable.
Examples of aggregate information include: (1) the Internet protocol
(IP) address of the computer you are using (discussed in more detail
below); (2) the date and time you access our site; and (3) the Internet
address of the website from which you linked directly to our site. We
may use this aggregate information to better enable us to provide you
with the resources you need and the level of quality you expect. For
example, information about the sections of our site people visit most
frequently and least frequently helps us decide which features website
users find most useful. Blood Systems may sometimes share with third
parties certain aggregate information. However, this information is not
personally identifiable and instead merely consists of aggregate and
anonymous facts, such as the average number of visitors to our site per
day and the most popular sections of our site.
Cookies
Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers
transferred to your computer's hard drive through your Web browser to
enable a website to recognize your browser. Cookies enable a website to
“remember” information about, for example, your preferences and may
allow you to move within a site without reintroducing yourself. Blood
Systems may use cookies to, for instance, track which pages on our site
our visitors view and which web browsers our visitors use. Any cookies
we may use are used for the purpose of recording information that
enables us to provide better service and to customize content. Any
information we may collect through cookies is aggregate information. Any
cookies we may use do not collect or retain personally identifiable
information and we do not combine aggregate information we may collect
through cookies with other information such that it would then
constitute personally identifiable information. In addition, we do not
authorize any third parties to use for their own purposes cookies we may
create. Please be advised, however, that sites you link to from our site
may use cookies for other purposes. We have no control over and are not
responsible for the way other sites use cookies. You should read and
understand the privacy policy of any site you link to in order to
determine whether and how a particular site uses cookies.
Most browsers are initially set up to
accept cookies. You can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or
indicate when a cookie is being sent. Please consult the help section of
your Web browser to learn how to do this. Please be advised, however,
that there may be certain features of our site that will not be
available to you and some Web pages that may not display properly if you
turn off cookies.
Web Beacons
Web beacons, also
known as single-pixel gifs, are images that allow, for instance, a site
to collect a cookie number and the time and date a site or page within a
site was viewed. Some of our website pages may contain Web beacons. Any
Web beacons we may use are used for the purpose of recording certain
information that enables us to provide better service and to customize
content. Any information we may collect through Web beacons is aggregate
information. Any Web beacons we may use do not collect or retain
personally identifiable information. In addition, we do not authorize
any third parties to use for their own purposes information we may
collect through Web beacons. Please be advised, however, that sites you
link to from our site may use Web beacons for other purposes. We have no
control over and are not responsible for the way other sites use Web
beacons. You should read and understand the privacy policy of any site
you link to in order to determine whether and how a particular site uses
Web beacons.
Internet Provider
(IP) Addresses
An IP address is an identifier
automatically assigned to your computer when you surf the Web. Web
servers automatically identify your computer by its IP address. When you
request pages from our site, Blood Systems servers log your IP address.
Blood Systems may collect IP addresses for purposes of system
administration and to report aggregate information (e.g., the number of
visitors to certain pages in our site). In addition, certain information
that is not personally identifiable may be recorded by the standard
operation of our servers. This information allows us to keep our site
running efficiently. The information we may record includes the browser
(e.g., Netscape, Internet Explorer) and the operating system (e.g.,
Macintosh, Windows) you are using.
Children’s Privacy
(Individuals Under the Age of 13)
Blood Systems is strongly committed to
protecting the safety and privacy of children that may visit our site.
All visitors to our site under the age of 13 are advised not to
disclose or provide any personally identifiable information on our site.
In the event Blood Systems discovers a child under the age of 13 has
provided personally identifiable information to us, in accordance with
the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, we will stop using the
information and, to the extent possible, we will delete the child’s
personally identifiable information from our files.
Amendments to This Privacy Policy
From time to time, it may be necessary for
Blood Systems to amend this Privacy Policy. You should review this
Privacy Policy from time to time so that you will be aware of any
changes. YOU ARE HEREBY ADVISED THAT YOUR CONTINUED USE OF OUR SITE
CONSTITUTES YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF ANY AMENDMENTS, REVISIONS, MODIFICATIONS,
ETC. TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY.
