Blood donors save the life of toddler

Max is a vivacious 2-year-old—always on the go and looking for trouble! But it hasn’t always been this way for him. Max was born with intestinal and heart defects, and spent the majority of his first year of life in the hospital. He has had 15 surgeries, the first when he was only a week old, and a major open-heart surgery at the age of six weeks. Max has received many blood transfusions, including whole blood and platelets, which were critical to his recovery from the numerous tests and surgeries.
Today Max is a happy, active toddler who entertains all with his sense of humor and is quick to hand out hugs and kisses! He is the sunshine of his family’s life, and they are very grateful for the generosity of volunteer blood donors—the heroes who gave Max the gift of life.
