United Blood Services High School Blood Drive Challenge

2012-2013

High School DonorThe United Blood Services High School Blood Drive Challenge helps Arizona’s youngest blood donors make their mark on the community by supporting blood donation.  Their efforts have grown to make them the largest single donor group in Arizona.  Approximately 1 in every 10 blood transfusions comes from a high school blood donor.  During the 2011-1 school year, 174 schools across Arizona were responsible for 424 blood drives, enabling United Blood Services (UBS) to collect more than 23,000 blood donations!

Why should my school participate?
By emphasizing community service and focusing on lifesaving activities, the UBS High School Blood Drive Challenge is unique among other high school programs.  Students develop leadership skills as they coordinate blood drives at their school.  A healthy dose of competition helps accomplish our lifesaving mission and makes the Challenge fun!  Each school is assigned to one of eight divisions based on the school’s senior class size and geographic location.  Donors receive special thank you gifts when their school hosts multiple blood drives.  A UBS Donor Recruitment Representative is also assigned to guide them through the blood drive process.

Celebrate success at Chase Field, Courtesy of the Arizona Diamondbacks!
The Arizona Diamondbacks donate a party suite to the top two schools and game tickets to gold, platinum and division winners.  Thanks to their generosity, more than 750 student blood drive committee members attend a Diamondbacks game each May.  The Division winning schools are featured on the field before the game where they receive their championship banners in front of the Chase Field crowd!

Even more ways to get involved!
Students who serve on their blood drive committee can earn a $1,000 scholarship and a special "Hero Cord" to be worn at graduation!  See the links on the left hand side of the page to find out more about these great programs.
